The Shannon and the Erne

Ireland, the land of Rivers and Lakes, provides not only the finest but also the longest inland cruising and leisure facility in Europe. The River Shannon in Ireland and The River Erne in Northern Ireland, combine to create Ireland's favourite cruising destination. The hundreds of moorings along the waterways offer the freedom to tie-up where you please. There are many small towns and villages to visit and enjoy some Irish tradition and culture. The waterways are superb for bream, rudd, roach, tench, pike, perch and salmon, truly an angler's paradise.

Tully Bay - Lower Lough Erne

Tully BayAn impressive choice awaits if you begin your Cruise from Tully Bay on the Erne System. You will have the opportunity to explore the Erne's two lakes, Upper Lough Erne and Lower Lough Erne. Those who travel to Upper Lough Erne will find a cruising paradise dotted with hundreds of idyllic islands brimming with natural beauty and scenic delights. Lower Lough Erne, a vast expanse of shimmering waters, stretches from Belleek to Enniskillen, the hinterland of this great lake is splendour personified, with its spectacular cliffs rising up 900ft.

Carrick-on-Shannon

Carrick-on-Shannon From Leitrim south, the Shannon meets the Boyle River with Lough Key at its source. Carrick-on-Shannon, is the ideal location from which to explore two of the Shannon's famous lakes. Lough Key to the North is surrounded by truly magnificent scenery and the Forest Park which offers many splendid nature trails. Downstream, the Shannon slowly widens, flowing through lough after lough, into the mighty Lough Ree as it glides southward.

Banagher

Banagher Further downstream, the Shannon wends its way to Banagher. Banagher is the ideal centre for exploring the lower Shannon and Lough Derg, the largest lake on the waterway system. Many good harbours and small towns are to be found on Lough Derg as well as a number of excellent eating places. Close by, the numerous nature trails and secluded walks of Portumna National Park are well worth a visit - you will find mooring easy in Portumna's Castle Harbour.
