Come to Ireland but stay in theUK. How can I do that? Northern Ireland is part of the UK and one of our marinas is in County Fermanagh. Fermanagh is called Ulster's Lakeland with good reason. Lough Erne splits the county down the middle and is the primary feature of the geography. You will experience the legendary Irish hospitality that we have come to expect with a little extra Ulster banter.
But for travelers from the UK, all your costs are in sterling – the bars, restaurants, shops – even your diesel fuel. There is no need to change money and you will be pleasantly surprised at the costs.
You can travel by air from most mainland airports to Belfast International Airport or Belfast City Airport and catch our bus transfer to Fermanagh.
Or, if you prefer, you can take a very short ferry trip from Stranraer in Scotland to Belfast or Larne and from there it is only a 2-hour drive (we even take Scottish money!).
There is plenty on Lough Erne to keep you busy for a week. North takes you to the world-famous Belleek Pottery where you can see the craftsmen at work and buy a few souvenirs. South takes you to the county town of Enniskillen with its mix of the old (great castle) and the new (leisure centre, cinemas etc).
Further south along the Erne River, you come to Upper Lough Erne with its twisting turns and hundreds of islands - it is more like a lost river than a lake. You will also find Crom Castle whose estate is now owned by the National Trust (as well as Florencecourt and Castle Coole in Enniskillen), so bring your card if you are a member.
Older history features on Lough Erne, particularly at the 12th Century settlement on Devenish Island – only reachable by boat and where you can moor up overnight. Lough Erne has hundreds of small jetties (many in the middle of nowhere) and there are no mooring charges.
If you feel like a bit more action, there are bars and restaurants on the shore but the Erne is more of a “get away from it all” destination.
So, if you are considering a “holiday at home” or staycation, consider coming to Lough Erne in Northern Ireland. We look forward to seeing you.
