Leave Banagher behind you and head north to Shannonbridge for the night. Next morning take the short cruise to Clonmacnoise for the day.
There is an excellent Visitor Centre for this spectacular Early Christian Settlement dating from the 12th Century. Wander the ruins and imagine life over 800 years ago. You will need to leave after lunch to get to Athlone for the night.
There is plenty to do here, especially if the weather isn’t so good and you are on a staycation holiday in Ireland. From Athlone, we suggest you travel up into the southern part of Lough Ree and visit Hodson Bay which has an on-water fun park – great for the kids! Then for the adults, cross over to Killinure and moor at Quigley’s Marina. Eat at the Killinure Chalets for a great steak.
Back to Shannonbridge and on to Banagher for your last night. Try out Hough’s Pub in Banagher for the traditional Irish Pub atmosphere.
