The River Shannon Tour

More Routes

Banagher – Terryglass – Killaloe – Portumna – Athlone – Lanesborough – Dromod – Carrick-on-Shannon

1 week - 20 hours - 140 km - 6 locks

A one-way special, you can see most of the Shannon in a week travelling from Banagher to Carrick (or vice versa). And if you fly in to Dublin Airport, we can collect you and take you to the start marina and then leave you back to the Airport at the end.

A slightly quicker Lough Derg tour takes in Terryglass and then on to Killaloe, the southernmost point of our navigation. You can come back up the western shore to Portumna for the night, staying in the Castle Harbour and ready for the bridge to open in the morning.

Passing Banagher again (do stop in if there is anything you need), head on up to Athlone for the next night, or if time permits, go on up to Hudson Bay or Killinure. The next day you will cross Lough Ree and get to Lanesborough in plenty of time.

Actually another twin town, Ballyleague is over the bridge! On your way back up to Carrick, spend the night in the lovely harbour at Dromod and walk the short distance up to the village for your evening meal. Then back to Carrick for your last night and eat out with a great choice of restaurants.
